The Revolutionary Leader in Personal Empowerment Safety Education and Violence Prevention for Children - Teaching Our Children to Resist Aggression Defensively
Purpose Since it's inception in 1998, radKIDS, Inc. has been committed to providing education that enhances the ability of children and parents to utilize knowledge, skills, and power to protect themselves from violence and harm.
r.a.d.KIDS: Making A Difference radKIDS strengthens family, encourages physical fitness, and teaches core safety values to live by through its program. Fun, activity-based programs include lecture, safety drills, muscle memory exercises and dynamic simulation. radKIDS community based programs have been offered as after school programs, day camps, recreation programs, as well as through scouting and religious youth groups.
- 100,000 children have been trained in the radKIDS personal Empowerment Safety education program.
- More than 2100 community based instructors have been trained in over 45 states and Canada.
- 25 children threatened with abduction used their skills and returned safely to their families.
- Hundreds of children spoke up and got the help they needed to stop the abuse.
Through radKIDS training, children become empowered and learn to replace the fear, confusion, and panic or dangerous situations with confidence, personal safety skills, and self-esteem.
Why the r.a.d.KIDS Program? Since its inception in 1998, r.a.d.KIDS has reached thousands of children across North America and has documented more that 150 successes in the prevention of violence and harm to children. Children as young as 5 years old have escaped the horrible realities of abduction, bullying, child abuse, sexual assault, and manipulation. In all of these incidents the children were able to combine the tools they acquired in r.a.d.KIDS classes with their own personal abilities and strengths to escape their attackers and return safely to their loved ones. The program's comprehensive Personal Empowerment Safety Education curriculum, designed for children 5-12 years old and their parents, is based on accelerated learning theory and teaches realistic physical resistance options to escape violence.
Curriculum topics include:
- Home, School and Vehicle Safety
- Out and About Safety
- Realistic Defense Against Abduction
- Good, Bad and Uncomfortable Touch
- Biting Dog Defense
- And much more
r.a.d.KIDS is a nonprofit nationally recognized education program that meets or exceeds every one of the 32 recommended curriculum guidelines for programs to reduce child victimization as established by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Some of the recommended curriculum guidelines are as follows:
- Strengthens a child's self-confidence and self-esteem at every level.
- Helps children distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate touch.
- Teaches children that offenders can be children or adults of any age, size, color, sex and either "strangers" or people they know.
- Emphasizes the fact that inappropriate adult behavior is never the fault of the child.
- Includes proper training for presenters, teachers, parents and community officials.
- Incorporates demonstrations and rehearsal of desired behavior by each child
Remember! Children are targeted as victims' because they are more vulnerable than adults, more trusting, and far easier to lure into dangerous situations. Awareness and recognition skills are vital in avoiding potentially harmful situations.
National Network Community-based organizations receive training and support from national headquarters to provide the radKIDS program as a part of their own youth work. These groups, which have safety goals compatible with those of radKIDS, include police departments, educational organizations, civic groups, fraternal organizations, citizens' groups and concerned parents.
Programs The radKIDS Personal Empowerment Safety Education Program is a 10-hour family centered safety education program that emphasizes essential decision-making skills as well as physical resistance options to escape violence. Children from 5-12 years of age participate in the program with their adult partners to create a true safety partnership.
